Among the Canadian provinces, Ontario appears to be all set for launching an online casino site to be supervised and run by the provincial government. Ontario follows close on the heels of the District of British Columbia, and despite the initial hurdles, Ontario’s plan for a government-run casino seems to be on track. It was expected that this move would not be opposed by any party and the lawmakers could easily create a gambling website shortly. But, in the recent elections, the Liberals appeared to have lost some of their original power. The Conservatives therefore got the ideal opportunity to protest against the growth of online gambling in this province. What is strange is the fact that this protest was directed more at the existing lot of politicians and not so much toward the issue of gambling. The spokesperson for the Conservatives Tim Houdak believes that this new source of revenue is like handing over the keys of the cabinet holding liquor to teens and leaving them unattended for the weekend. He further suggested that since online gambling sites run by reputed and licensed companies were already open to residents of Ontario, this new development would only create more problems as the competition would grow more intense. Tim Houdak expressed his concern about the capability of the Ontario Lottery and Gambling Corporation to handle this change. Regardless of these opposing views, efforts are on to locate a company that is fit to successfully design such an online gaming site. This company should be able to take care of all operations relating to the site, starting from designing it to arranging for financial transfers.

Playtech continues to surprise its fans
At the beginning of the year Playtech had declared that it was going to be the exclusive games software provider for the Gala Coral casino. This meant that the other game suppliers would be asked to stop their services to this casino. But, Playtech appears to have acquired one of these independent game providers called Ash Gaming. This happens to be the fourth acquisition this year for Playtech. This London-based game provider, which was founded in 2002, employs as many as 40 people and has expanded substantially since its evolution. Playtech is expected to pay about 15 million pounds now and the rest over a three-year period. Playtech has other plans to provide Ash Gaming’s other games to many online casinos through its software platform.
