Filed under: Casino — Tags: — OCE News @ 3:36 am

It has become increasingly clear in recent years that we can expect online poker legislation to come down, either on the state level, or on the federal level. There are many different situations that companies and regulatory bodies are planning for. Although, many regulatory bodies feel that state legislation is going to come down first, there is also some movement in several areas of the federal government that show that perhaps we can expect federal legislation to come down at some point. In preparation for this, the governor of Nevada, Brian Sandoval, has asked state legislators to act within the next 30 days on an assembly bill that would allow the state to join other states and offer online gambling programs. Of course, with Nevada being the center for gambling in the United States, it almost comes as an expectation that they will be able to pass the legislation, which would generate huge tax dollars for the state when passed.

The bill would permit the governor to enter into agreements with other states. This would allow online poker and would repeal an existing law that would bar interstate gaming until the federal laws passed. It would be certainly interesting to see whether not state laws would be able to acton their own for a period of time. The bill would permit the governor to enter into agreements that would act in the best interest of the state. It is clear that Gov. Brian Sandoval would like these laws to be passed now, rather than later, in order to avoid this federal legislation that is expected to come down at some point over the course of the next two years. It is also clear that he would like Nevada to be the leading state in online gambling, just as they were in physical gambling in previous years.

In the message that was delivered to the legislator, Gov. Brian Sandoval stated, “Nevada has always been the gold standard of both gaming regulation and agreements, and I intend to see to it that our state will lead the world into this new frontier.”

The state has already released a total of 20 licenses to a variety of different casinos and companies that would allow them to conduct online poker within the state of Nevada. However, none of the computer systems that these systems are going to be running on have been approved by the state of this time. It will be interesting to see if these laws are approved moving forward, and whether or not the Nevada Gaming Control Board is going to run into federal legislation that could limit their ability to appropriately legislate these issues.

It is clear that Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval would like for the state legislature to act swiftly on online gambling, and begin to allow more companies to receive licenses, give him the ability to make deals with other states, and allow the software that the systems are going to be running on to be approved. It will be certainly interesting to see how this plays out moving forward.

Filed under: Casino — Tags: — OCE News @ 3:33 am

With it being clear that online gambling is going to be coming to in number of different states and sometime in the near future including Las Vegas, New Jersey, and possible Federal regulations coming down, number of different agencies are looking to start to put regulations in place in order to oversee the operations and the shift to online gambling. The state Gaming Control Board of Nevada conducted its monthly meeting in Carson City, and a number of plans were laid out. During the meeting, three companies requested extensions to complete laboratory testing of interactive gaming licenses that were approved last year. This measure passed 3=0, and all three companies received the extensions that they requested. Representatives of the three companies said that they were in various stages of testing and some said that there were many new variables that they were going to have to consider before reaching a final decision, including whether or not federal lawmakers would consider legislation that would govern online poker and online gambling in general. With states looking to pass their own laws, and federal legislation possibly on the horizon, companies are making sure that they have all of their ducks in a row in regards online gambling and are prepared for any outcome that may come in the near future.

Also during the meeting,TravelCenters of America, a company that operates twos truck stops in southern Nevada and three in northern Nevada, requested the licensing of a publicly traded corporation. This would give them a number of different options for expansion of their gaming facilities, which would allow the company to grow at it swifter pace. It is also seeking licensing to receive a percentage of gaming revenue at the northern Las Vegas Nevada properties. This phone also past 3 to 0. Currently, there are no expansion plans for the company in southern Nevada, but they may be looking to at some point in the very near future.

With the online gambling legislation coming at some point in the near future both for states, as well as for federal legislation, it will be interesting to see how these companies continue to react. Most of them seem to be acting in self preservation, which means that they are going to be looking at how they are going to be able to make the appropriate decisions that can safeguard their companies when this legislation comes down. Already, number of companies have launched online gambling solutions that are completely free at this time, in order to put together a user base for their future solutions. It will be interesting to see if these companies are able to appropriately deal with the legislation as it comes down, and make the most of the online gambling services that will be allowed at some point in the near future.

However, it is not only companies that are scrambling to get ready for this legislation. Even the regulatory bodies are unsure of how everything is going to play out in as a result are preparing for multiple different circumstances. Although it is not thought that heavy federal regulation will come down, and instead we will see slight oversight on the federal level, and allowing states to govern themselves on this issue, it will be interesting to see how to sides reach amicable terms that will benefit both the nation federally and the states individually.

Stratosphere Owner Launches Completely Free Online Poker Website

It is absolutely no secret that online gambling is going to be the way of the future, whether it is done through the states, or done through free enterprise and allowing businesses to capitalize on the opportunities that are available to them. However, depending upon the company, there are multiple ways in which they are going about capturing a user base on the Internet in order to expand well in the future. Recently, the owner of the Stratosphere, who also owns Arizona Charlie branded casinos in the Las Vegas area have taken their first dip into the online realm. They recently launched a website which is going to allow anyone that would like to the ability to play online poker, completely for free on their website. Although this is a unique strategy, especially for a company that has made their living from paid poker, it certainly will be a great way for the company to attract a user base that is going to be interested in the services that they offer.

The company, American Casino & Entertainment, which owns the Stratosphere and various other properties throughout the Las Vegas area have announced the launch of their new online website, acePlayPoker.com. The companies have launched a number of different poker sites over the course of the last year, in anticipation of laws within Las Vegas that are going to allow for companies to conduct a limited amount of online gambling. Although nothing is set in stone at this time, it is thought that after some deliberation the laws will be approved in some manner, allowing companies to utilize the user base is that they are able to generate now by offering free games, and offer them upgrades into paid poker games, generating revenue for both the state, as well as the companies themselves. There’s also some word out there on the horizon about federal legislation that could be coming down at some point as well. Although many companies are in the dark at some point, most are expecting some form of legislation to come down the gives them the ability to offer poker and some other games with limitations attached to them. This is because the states themselves are not going to want to develop the poker software, and if the companies are able to put themselves in a good place with a solid user base, the transition to the legal online gambling is going to be a simple one.

Players are going to be able to win prizes including tickets to a variety of different shows and rides at the Stratosphere. Other prizes that are going to be offered include free hotel stays, and a variety of other prizes that are going to entice players to utilize the website. Although there’s no way to earn money by playing on the website at this time, it is thought that after legislation is passed that will be something that the company is looking to do in the future. The Nevada gaming commission has approved American Casino & Entertainment Properties as an interactive gaming operator, which means that once the legislation comes that allows them to utilize the online poker to their advantage, they are going to be one of the first companies that is allowed into the space.

Caesars Palace Could Be Next To Receive Online Poker License

Filed under: Casino — Tags: — OCE News @ 3:11 am

As of late, a number of companies have received licenses from the state that allow them to offer online poker to individuals throughout Nevada. There have already been a number of companies that have received the license, and now, the most popular casino in Vegas, Caesars Palace, has been put up for a recommendation for an online poker license. The online unit was recommended for licensure as an online intrastate poker operator in the Nevada area. The meeting was held in Carson City, during which the State Gaming Control Board voted to recommend a license for the company. They are the group that is in charge of the recommendation of licenses, and the commission is believed to be planning to issue the license before the end of the year.

The casino currently has the largest share of the physical casino market in the United States, and is certainly the largest casino in the Nevada and Las Vegas areas as well. They are planning to offer online poker, in conjunction with the World Series of Poker brand that is currently a subdivision under the company. It is thought that the company is going to be easily approved for the license, and become the 17th company that is been licensed to participate in the upcoming state-sponsored online poker licensing program. Some of the previously approved applicants are already in the testing phases of their software, which is a period of time that is going to be required before they are able to go live.

Caesars Palace is already planning to launch their online poker, once their technical partner, 888 Holdings LLC, a company that is located in England, is licensed as well. The two of them are going to be working together to put together a platform that allows people to play poker online, through the World Series of Poker brand, which has become increasingly popular in recent years. The company commented on the story after receiving the recommendation, saying that they had all of the necessary people in place to move forward, and would begin once they had secured the license.

So far, the online poker that is approved in Nevada is not community poker as you would commonly seen casinos and bars, and instead is poker that allows players to compete against one another. It will be interesting to see what kind of rules and regulations come down not only from the states themselves, but from Congress and on the federal level regarding online gaming. Online poker and other gaming activities was popular as short as 2 to 3 years ago, before many of the large companies were raided and had their assets frozen, suspected of allowing Americans to gamble online, acting outside of federal law.

With no company being sure exactly how the changes are going to affect them, it is clear that a number of companies have decided to play the hand that they’ve been dealt, and prepare for the Nevada licensing of state online poker, and an effort to ensure that they are able to provide online poker, as soon as possible, regardless of what kind of rulings come down from the federal government in the meantime.

Online Poker Legislation Is Looking Less Likely In the Senate

Filed under: Casino — Tags: — OCE News @ 2:52 am

Over the course of the last few months, the chances of online poker receiving new legislation was looking more likely in the Senate. However, these hopes appear to be dimming, as legislation regarding online poker seems to be less likely. It was just a few months ago that Nevada Sen. Harry Reid spoke about an Internet poker bill that they would attempt to pass before the year was out. However, recently when asked about the bill, Reid seemed much less confident than he had been in the past. He even went as far as to state that he huge poker bill may be a political impossibility during these tough times in the Senate. As Vegas, and other cities wait to see what is done about the approaching fiscal cliff, getting anything else done, especially a bill of this magnitude, seems to be much more unlikely.

“Poker is an issue that’s on the front burner for me, for Sen. Reid and Sen. Kyl,” Dean Heller said Tuesday. “The front burner for everybody else is this rules package and the fiscal cliff … it’s just hard getting it to the forefront so that we can make it an issue and get it moving.”

Reid also commented on the subject, saying that in Internet poker bill would need anywhere between 15 to 17 Republican votes in the Senate, and at the current stage they had not been able to convince a single public and Sen. to back the bill. Although Reid and Heller had both been caught up in some nasty name calling and bashing during the election season, both of them had agreed to work with one another in order to get the online poker legislation the past. The goal of the bill would be to roll back the ruling from the Department of Justice from the 1961 Wire Act. This act stated that all forms of interstate gambling online illegal, but did allow for states to allow for Internet poker, and then to regulate the market. The legislation is currently in draft form, but it does not appear likely to see the floor of the Senate anytime soon. Two years ago, Sen. Harry Reid had tried to place legislation that allowed for online poker into a tax compromise bill, but was unsuccessful in doing so.

It does not appear that Sen. Harry Reid is backing off of his promise to help to bring online poker to the floor of the Senate, but it does appear that it will not be happening in 2012, or at least until the fiscal cliff negotiations come to an end. As Nevada begins to license companies for their upcoming Internet poker platform, other states look to follow suit, and are waiting for legislation rulings from federal sources before doing so. It was just a few years ago that many online poker companies were shut down, and had their assets seized by the federal government, for illegally allowing individuals within the United States to play poker and Gamble online. It will be interesting to see how federal legislation is brought about, and whether or not it will be comprehensive enough to give a definitive answer to states, as to whether they should move forward with online poker as a legitimate way for their state to increase revenue.
